Components

 

The MTR390-E engine consists of the following modules: Gearbox, Gas Generator and Power Turbine which can be easily separated and of the Engine Control and Monitoring Unit (ECMU).

The MTR390-E Gearbox (module 1) includes two operational units:

  • The reduction gear in the lower part of the module which reduces the power
    turbine rotational speed to the required engine output speed.
  • The accessory gearbox in the upper part provides the support and drive for engine
    equipment like oil pump, fuel pump, oil cooler, electrical starter, etc.

This condensed configuration is hosted into a single casted aluminium casing which also houses
the oil tank for the self contained engine oil system.

 The MTR390-E Gas Generator (module 2) is fitted with the main following units:

  • A two-stage centrifugal compressor for a high efficiency in a reduced space.
  • An annual combustor in reverse flow configuration in order to reduce engine length and improve cooling configuration.
  • One single stage high pressure turbine, designed to provide high performance and reliability.
  • One interturbine casing to provide the structural support for the rear bearing chamber.
  • The power turbine shaft which transmits the power from the free turbine to the gearbox coaxial to the HP spool.

The MTR390-E Power Turbine (module 3) is a two stage axial turbine of robust design with conservative temperature and stress levels, providing high performance and minimize operating risk.

 

 

 

The MTR390-E ECMU (module 4) is the engine control and monitoring unit providing the following main features:

  • Fully automatic start sequence (typical time 30 sec.)
  • Surge and flame-out free transient protection 
  • Automatic limitation to OEI ratings
  • Automatic torque limiter for aircraft MGB
  • Crosstalk communication between ECMU’s
  • Training mode function
  • Manual/Electrical Back Up
  • Engine Performance Check (EPC)
  • Limit Exceedance Monitoring (LEM)
  • Life Usage Monitoring  (LUM)
  • Built-in test
  • Analogue overspeed protection
